Ye are the Salt of the Earth

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its savor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Matthew 5:13

In Matthew 5:13, it says we are the salt of the earth. Salt of the earth really means Christians. But are we the true salt of the earth, or have we lost our savor? Ellen white says: Though the wicked know it not, they owe even the blessings of this life to the presence, in the world, of God’s people whom they despise and oppress. But if Christians are such in name only, they are like the salt that has lost its savor. They have no influence for good in the world. Through their misrepresentation of God they are worse than unbelievers. DA 306

If we are Christians in name only, we are like the salt that has lost its savor. We have absolutely no influence for good in the world and through our misrepresentation of God, we are worse than unbelievers. We are then good for nothing, but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men.

How careful, then, we should be to follow the example of Christ. Unless we do this we are worthless—salt which has lost its savor. Only by following Christ's example can we find true happiness. When He is accepted the heart is subdued and its purposes are changed. His service will place upon you no restriction that will not increase your happiness. In complying with His requirements, you will find a peace, contentment, and enjoyment that you can never have in the path of sin. ML 166.6

God requires those who claim to believe the Bible, the standard of Christian character, to bring the Christ-likeness into all their service, that not one particle of the salt shall lose its preserving influence. The Christ-likeness is ever to be preserved. The mind and heart are to be cleansed from all sin, all unlikeness to Christ.TDG 201.2
How careful then we should be to follow the example of Christ in our lifework. Unless we do this, we are worthless to the world—salt which has lost its savor....1NL 117.3

What do we do if we find that we have lost our savor? We need to give our hearts to Christ and we need to follow His example. When we do what He asks, we will find peace, contentment and joy that we cannot have when in sin.

Let's all work toward being the salt of the earth today, and every day. Let's give the world a true representation of Christ.

God bless,

Hannah Evert

Slay Your Son

With a trembling hand and tears in his eyes, he lifted the knife high above the submissive form of his only son. In Genesis 22:2, God gives Abraham a fearful message. " Take now your son, your only  son  Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Slay his only son!  The Promised son born to him at 100?  God had even told Abraham that the deliverer would rise from Isaac's lineage.  If he slayed his son, he would be slaying all hope of man's deliverance.  But he still obeyed.  Setting out for Moriah immediately, he brought wood and the sacrifice, his son.  Three days they journeyed to the appointed place, yet through all those long hours Abraham remained steadfast despite the task ahead of him.   Reaching Moriah, he explains to his precious son what God had commanded.  Isaac submits willingly and allows himself to b...
