The Protest Lives On

Faithful to the End

Part 7

By Caleb Tam

The Reformation is now over, but the flame kindled by those faithful men burns on.  All through the centuries there have always been some who remain true to God and conscience no matter the cost, preserving the precious word of God.  As a result of the apparent downfall of the Reformation, many people are now compromising their beliefs and consciences, reforming them to the cunning ways of the Catholic church.  They are placing mortal man in higher authority than the infallible and unerring
word of God.  They accept the authority of contradicting popes and councils, obeying man rather than God.

Four years after nailing his 95 theses, Martin Luther, when pressured to recant at the Diet of Worms, firmly responded to his accusers with these powerful words.

"Unless I am convinced by Scripture and plain reason, I do not accept the authority of popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other.  My conscience is captive to the word of God.  I cannot and I will not recant anything.  For to go against conscience is neither right nor safe.  God help me.  Amen."

Times are going to get tough for the remnant who "Keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."  May we, as did Luther and countless others, remain unflinchingly true to God, and remain faithful unto death.

Are we prepared for the final test?  Do we have on our spiritual armor at all times?  For we know not when probation will close.  Are we spreading the news of our Lord's return with those who do not know?  Are we carrying the torch kindled by the reformers?  Are we letting go of the chains in our lives allowing Him to move the roadblocks?  Do we use every moment of our time fulfilling the duties set before us by the Master?  May we remain faithful no matter what the cost.  Let us not compromise in our lives, holding scripture and scripture alone as truth, and may our consciences be entirely captive to the Word of God.  May the protest live on in our hearts, preparing us to be faithful to the end.

"These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." - Revelation 7:14

"Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." - Revelation 22:20

Decision Time

Sitting on that rough wooden bench at Young Disciple Camp, conviction grabbed me, and I knew what I had to do.  It was decision time. Shifting into reverse, let's back up a bit to December, 2016.  Each Christmas, instead of giving gifts to each other, our family writes down a gift for Jesus, a resolution related to some struggle we're having, or anything God is calling us to do or surrender for the coming year.  For a while I had felt God calling me to publicly commit my life to Him through baptism.  So that's what I wrote down.   This year I will commit my life to God through baptism.   As the year progressed, I became more and more unsure of my commitment.  I didn't have the courage to make my stand.  That is, until YD.  At Young Disciple Camp, I was greatly blessed by all the campfire talks, Deep Bible Studies, etc.  Sabbath evening, the campers were given a chance to share what God had done for them at cam...

The Treasurefield

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  ~2 Timothy 2:15     Many times when we come to this verse, we freeze, feel convicted, and then brush it aside.   Why do we do this?     God has graciously and providentially given us His word, inspiring men of God to write, sometimes on the rolling hills, sometimes in His glorious temples, sometimes in the dusky dungeons.  The authors of this book were anywhere from mighty kings to lowly fishermen, but even though there was such a variety of authors and such a variety of circumstances for writing, the Bible says the same thing straight through.  It does not contradict itself; instead, it explains itself.  It has stood for millennia, and has never failed, once.  Its prophecies have been fulfilled to the letter.  By the Bible, we know what is truth and we understand God....
