An Audience With the King

Bang, bang, bang! You hear someone pound on the door. You glance out the window and gasp as you see a brightly dressed man standing on your doorstep, waiting for you to answer the door. From the colors of his uniform, you can tell that he is a messenger from the king.

You rush to the door and open it eagerly. The messenger hands you an official looking envelope and then hurries back to the palace. You eagerly tear open the seal and then read the beautiful writing that flows across the page. You gasp in delight! It is an invitation to an audience with the king! The letter says that you will be able to ask him some favors and that he will grant them!

You immediately begin to get ready. You choose your finest clothes to wear at the palace and you spend hours just trying to think of what you will ask the king.

Finally the day of your audience with the king arrives. You are ushered into the anteroom and you sit down to wait. As you wait, do you ask yourself, I wonder how much time the king will make me spend with him. I have so many things I need to do today! Why do I have to bother to take time out of my busy schedule to talk to him? Hardly! You will more likely be worried that you won’t be able to spend as much time with the king as you would like to. You are so excited to see the king that you hardly even think about the other things you could be doing that day!

In prayer, we have an audience with the king of kings! He is an eternal, omnipotent king and He is infinitely more powerful than any earthly king. Why would anyone ever ask, How much time do I have to spend in prayer?

Instead, when we realize the enormous privilege He grants us, our thought will be, how much time may I spend in prayer?

Decision Time

Sitting on that rough wooden bench at Young Disciple Camp, conviction grabbed me, and I knew what I had to do.  It was decision time. Shifting into reverse, let's back up a bit to December, 2016.  Each Christmas, instead of giving gifts to each other, our family writes down a gift for Jesus, a resolution related to some struggle we're having, or anything God is calling us to do or surrender for the coming year.  For a while I had felt God calling me to publicly commit my life to Him through baptism.  So that's what I wrote down.   This year I will commit my life to God through baptism.   As the year progressed, I became more and more unsure of my commitment.  I didn't have the courage to make my stand.  That is, until YD.  At Young Disciple Camp, I was greatly blessed by all the campfire talks, Deep Bible Studies, etc.  Sabbath evening, the campers were given a chance to share what God had done for them at cam...

The Treasurefield

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  ~2 Timothy 2:15     Many times when we come to this verse, we freeze, feel convicted, and then brush it aside.   Why do we do this?     God has graciously and providentially given us His word, inspiring men of God to write, sometimes on the rolling hills, sometimes in His glorious temples, sometimes in the dusky dungeons.  The authors of this book were anywhere from mighty kings to lowly fishermen, but even though there was such a variety of authors and such a variety of circumstances for writing, the Bible says the same thing straight through.  It does not contradict itself; instead, it explains itself.  It has stood for millennia, and has never failed, once.  Its prophecies have been fulfilled to the letter.  By the Bible, we know what is truth and we understand God....
